FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is a season in BGCYP really required?

Yes. It's absolutely necessary. BGCYP is a coach-intensive program, available for qualified individuals from 5th grade and up, where athletes learn the fundamentals and etiquette of the game in a stress-free, non-competitive setting. While outside competition opportunities are highlighted, including the MN State Shoot at Alexandria, they are not required to participate. It's a LEARNING-centric program.

BHSTT is a competition-driven program. After 1-3 weeks of league practice, the team competes as a unit with our team score determining our ranking across Conference & Overall. Coaches are there to guide, trouble-shoot and support, but the fundamentals need to already be in place. It's a COMPETITION-centre program.

What both BGCYP & BHSTT programs are, first and foremost, are MENTORSHIP programs.....through the sport of trapshooting. Our coaching staff wants what's best for every athlete we serve and, by implementing this requiring years ago, are doing exactly that.

can you accommodate my other fall sport?

In a nutshell? No. Our team requires athletes to shoot one of the two time slots based on their skill level, not their sports team schedule, and with a team as large as our that juggling has gotten out of hand. Out of respect for those athletes who make BHSTT their first priority, we do not allow specific time requests, late arrivals or missed competitions so participants can attend their ‘other’ sport.

how many nights a week am I required to shoot?

BHSTT, as a team, practices/competes on Mondays only. This is due to gun club being a very busy place; BHSTT is grateful to have a night to themselves as several teams struggle to piece together range opportunities.

That being said, athletes who seek out other practice and competition opportunities have a much greater chance of reaching their goals. Buffalo Gun Club offers practice & league shooting both spring & fall, and

what’s the difference between the spring and fall leagues?

Spring is the longer, much more competitive BHSTT season. Jerseys are required, there’s our Championship shoot in Alexandria, and more athlete requirements and the opportunity to letter.

Fall, while still competitive, has more of an intramural feel to it. No jersey or off-site competition required, no end-of-the-year party, and not lettering. It’s a chance for qualified 8th graders to get a feel for being on the team without all the added stress & cost of spring, and for our current team members to keep their skills up.
